What happened

An emergency call-out for a burst 400mm trunk main in Kentish Town, London.

Why speed mattered

A trunk main failure doesn't wait for a convenient time to fix.

The team had to mobilise, assess, and set up a controlled, safe site within a 3-hour response window — no lead time to plan around access, traffic, or programme the way a scheduled job allows.

Our approach

Once the site was made safe, the team excavated onto the leak, cut out the failed section and relaid a 4.2-metre length of 400mm main.

‍

The new section was connected with Ultragrip couplers, and the main was then recharged successfully.

Where it stands

Within a short timeframe, we had implimented traffic management, found the leak, excavated the pipe, installed and repaired the water system, backfilled the whole and reinstated the road.

A successful repair completition of a leaking water main in a high-traffic area in a busy part of London.
